Mkhaya Game Reserve
All of Mkhaya’s overnight packages are fully inclusive of entry, meals, accommodation and activities. The latter includes use of Mkhaya’s new ‘Kirky’s Hide’ where visitors can spot wildlife and birds of all shapes and sizes, guided open Land Rover game drives and, in select packages, Mkhaya’s famous Guided Game Walks. These walks were recently quoted by Photo-Journalist, Stephen Cunliffe, as being ‘on a par with a mountain gorilla encounter in Central Africa’ in Wild Magazine.
Mkhaya is also an exciting conservation success story staffed and patrolled by Swazis from neighbouring communities, and currently boasts what is arguably Africa’s most effective anti-poaching unit located in the southeast of Swaziland, the heart of the lowveld.
Named after the Acacia Nigrescens tree found in the reserve, in addition to 4 of the Big 5 (missing Lion), visitors can spot the pure Swazi Nguni Breed of Cattle, Tsessebe, Giraffe, Hippo, Crocodiles and exquisite birdlife including the elusive Narina Trogon and Pink-Throated Twinspot to name just a few of the wildlife highlights.
Often quoted as one of the best places in southern Africa to spot Black Rhino, Mkhaya’s bird-rich riverine Stone Camp is also a wonderful retreat after a day out in the hot African bush. Entry to the park must be prebooked and guests are met at the pick-up point at either 10 a.m. or 4 p.m. according to their package itinerary. Overnight guests are requested to pack a small weekender/overnight bag for their stay at Mkhaya.
A trip to Mkhaya is a trip into Real Africa – a soul enriching experience you’ll never forget.
