Pilgrims Rest

The town is situated on the picturesque Panorama route. It was the location of an emergency mint during the Second Boer War. This mint struck the famous and rare Veld Pond that struck out of handmade dies. Pilgrims Rest is a living Monument of the gold fever rush in the 1800’s and was officially declared a gold field in 1873. The town was declared a National Monument in 1986.
