Documentation Required:

  • Valid passport of the driver and all who accompanies him/her
  • Certified copy of the vehicle's registration papers in the name of the driver or a certified letter for the driver by the owner giving the driver permission to drive the vehicle across the border.
  • If the vehicle is financed by the bank, a letter of permission must be obtained with the given dates of the journey.
  • Carnet de Passage is highly required for cars that are registered outside of South Africa such as Lesotho, Swaziland, Namibia and Botswana. If you do not have Carnet de Passage, duties are payable to SARS on a SAD500 form, you will be required to have your car cleared by the local motoring club.
  • Travellers Declaration Form, the DA331 has to be completed upon entry to South Africa.

  • Reflective Jacket: If more than two people are travelling in the car, then two jackets will be required (to be used when changing a tyre, at an accident scene or if loading)
  • Declaration Form for Vehicle: Cost is approximately R50
  • Yellow and Blue Mozambique Warning Triangle: Two stickers required if towing a trailer; one in the front of the vehicle (on the bumper) and one on the rear of the trailer
