Chinde

Map

This small town was born from a need to take ships inland on the nearby river and it eventually died because of a railway that made the river useless. The town has a short history, it belonged to the British during the town’s infancy and after the need for the town was made null and void the Portuguese government took the area back. The town now only serves smaller ships and the local sugar plantations with exports. The town is one of the unique places in the world where the success was short lived and it now only has a small community.
